Attraction Marketing
Attraction Marketing is one of those buzzwords thrown around in Internet Marketing and Network Marketing circles. Often the people using the term have no understanding of what it actually means, and many of them are guilty of spamming their wares across the Internet. The Law Of Attraction was first mentioned in print in 1879. The New York Times suggested that some "occult law of attraction" was driving the people toward the Colorado gold rush (source - Wikipedia). Once coined, the phrase continued to be used. But it wasn't until Napoleon Hill published his classic Think And Grow Rich that it really established itself in the common vernacular. Napoleon Hill mentions a "secret" to success, and it is widely reputed that his secret was the Law Of Attraction. This of course become another... [Read More]

Conjoint Analysis For Market Research
Conjoint analysis is one of the most popular quantitative methods in Marketing Research. The popularity of Conjoint Analysis is well deserved. Conjoint Analysis has in many cases replaced concept testing because it is more effective.         The problems with traditional product testing were shown dramatically in 1985 when Coca Cola carried out market research at a cost of $4 million, looking for a new formulation to replace the classic Coke. Despite the fact that the New Coke was preferred to Classic Coke by 55% of people in taste tests, the alienation of a significant number of consumers who preferred the classic formulation resulted in a public outcry by Coca Cola loyalists. Basically they were saying to America don't mess with our Coke... [Read More]

How Job Management Software Can Weed Out Unprofitable Customers
In these hard financial times, a question that many workshop owners need to ask themselves is, "are our good customers costing us money?"   For a business that's producing a million identical widgets every month, it's relatively easy to determine the production cost, and ultimately the profitability. However for many small companies it's not that simple. They provide a variety of products or services, perhaps only to a handful of customers. Each job is different and usually has been won after some intense negotiations on price. Job quotations have been based on a best estimate of what it will cost to produce the product (or provide the service), with the hope that production costs will then stay within budget.   Some reassurance may come from a customer being a major player on... The Perfect Job - Myth or Reality?
A friend of mine tells the story of his Mom. She was a smart woman who graduated at 16 but never furthered her education beyond that. Her parents died when she was 23. She assumed responsibility for raising her 7 year-old sister. She married and gave birth to my friend as her sister turned 18. The sister soon married and moved and her husband left her to bring up my friend alone.   She worked a variety of jobs to make ends meet. In her last job she "managed" and establishment for a whopping 10 cents above minimum wage. While she worked plenty of unpaid overtime, kept the place running and build a good business for her employer, she was never officially the manager. Her perfect job never materialized. She was too busy earning a living.   What about you?   My friend isn't sur... [Read More]

Retail Marketing vs Internet Marketing
My retail shop was primarily an extra to my landscape designing business but it was so pretty people thought it should be selling flowers. Of course I listened and then hired a florist, visited the markets 3 times a week and as they opened at 6am I was often up at 4 or 4.30 to get there on time and get a good park. Lugging flowers and plants around was not my idea of fun but it had to be done. Then came the tropical fish and a huge expense to set up the tanks and import them. Many died soon after arrival and unless they were constantly maintained they did not survive.   In the end I was employing some 6 people to manage the shop and some 10 or more outside on the gardens. Running like a lunatic day after day and working in all weather situations was extremely tiring. On top of that I ... [Read More]

Is a Gas Rebate Program an Effective Way to Get Customers
Is a Gas Rebate Program an Effective Way to Get Customers? I'm sure that you've seen them: gas rebate or grocery rebate certificates. They are designed to facilitate two things: first, for the company offering them, they will get more customers in the door and buying their products. And second, for the customer, they are a way for them to save money on their groceries or gas. But do companies see high return on investment for their marketing dollar? And if your company is looking to leverage this to get more customers in the door, what is involved? Well, the more traditional methods of advertisement, namely television and radio can cost thousands for what could amount for only a few seconds of exposure. And print ads, while effective, can be expensive as well, because to catch a reader's... [Read More]

Can Chiropractors Increase Business by Having a Website
Can Chiropractors Increase Business by Having a Website? I'm sure wherever you live you seen more than one in town. Chiropractors that is. With the increased interest in keeping healthy no matter what the age, chiropractors seem to have thriving practices no matter where they are. In fact, based on my own experience, some chiropractors would need to be twins just to handle the constant influx of patients coming through their doors. Many a time did I show up to my appointment for him to tell me he was a little behind. I never had an issue with this as that meant that a) he knew what he was doing and b) he was a good "people" person. Upon suggestion that he have a website, he mentioned that walk-ins and word of mouth were doing so well he didn't see why he should have one. But the reasons ar... [Read More]
