Why learn all the notes on the fretboard?
With so many people playing the guitar these days you hardly see anyone take the time to learn how to memorize the notes on the fretboard. Many of the guitar players just learn some songs to play for fun. I was like that for many many years as well. Not understanding what your are playing or how to really make your own style is very frustrating. Having only taken a few lessons with a guitar teacher in a music shop I picked up some basic music theory about the different modes and some scales to go along with them. What was missing from my training was the very basics of learning the guitar fretboard notes and positions.
